Fertility conception

Starting out on your fertility journey can be both exciting and overwhelming. Whether you're just starting to plan for a baby or have been trying for a while, the path to parenthood can sometimes feel uncertain. As a naturopath, I work with many people who are considering conceiving, trying to conceive or during their pregnancy & breastfeeding. We have a very holistic approach focused on enhancing the fertility and health of both partners.

Understanding Fertility Holistically

Fertility is influenced by a delicate interplay of hormones, nutrition, lifestyle, and overall health. Naturopathy approaches fertility by looking at the whole picture, identifying areas where your body may need extra support and addressing potential barriers to conception. This can include:

  • Nutritional support: Ensuring your body has the essential nutrients for optimal reproductive health.

  • Hormonal balance: Identifying and addressing imbalances that could impact ovulation or sperm quality.

  • Gut health: Supporting digestion and nutrient absorption, which are vital for hormone production and overall well-being.

  • Stress management: Chronic stress can significantly impact fertility. Naturopaths often include techniques to reduce stress and promote relaxation.

  • Detoxification: Helping your body eliminate toxins that may interfere with hormonal health and fertility.

Tailored Care for Women and Men

While much of the focus is often on women during fertility discussions, it’s important to remember that male fertility plays an equally crucial role. As a naturopath, I support both partners with individualised care.

For Women:

  • Regulating menstrual cycles & hormones to improve ovulation.

  • Addressing conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, or thyroid imbalances which can affect conception.

  • Optimising egg quality through targeted nutrition and supplementation.

  • Addressing other barries to conception such as stress, sleep, low libido ect.

For Men:

  • Improving testosterone levels & sperm health - including count, motility, and morphology.

  • Addressing lifestyle factors such as poor diet, smoking, and alcohol consumption that may impact fertility.

  • Supporting overall vitality and hormonal health.

A Recent Success Story:

For the purpose of this story, let’s just call this couple ‘Emma’ and ‘James’. They came to me at the start of their fertility journey. Emma had recently come off the pill & was having irregular cycles, PMS, acne, Gut issues and a few other niggly things going on in her health. James had just come off antidepressants & lowered testosterone and sex drive. They came to see me because they had a sense that they might struggle to fall pregnant & wanted natural support.

We worked for the first few months we solely focused on preconception nutrition & supplementation for both of them, regulating Emma’s menstrual cycle, healing her gut & balancing her hormones & supporting increased testosterone & supporting James’s mood & energy levels. Emma’s skin healed, she no longer had gut issues, she was ovulating & having a consistent menstrual cycle, and James was feeling great off his antidepressants. Once we saw these significant improvements they then started trying to actively conceive, on Emma’s 4th ovulation after actively trying she fell pregnant. She is now halfway through her pregnancy & is feeling great, she hasn’t had any issues & baby is doing really well.

This is just a recent example & one of the many fertility success stories we have had at the clinic! We love getting to support our patients from start right through to birth, breastfeeding & supporting their child’s growth & development.
