Men's Mental Health Matters

A lot of men carry more than people realise. Pressure to provide, lead, stay strong, keep
going, and hold everything together can become heavy over time. In Australia, around 1 in
7 men experience depression, yet many suffer quietly because they feel they have to
“push through.” Men also account for around 75% of suicide deaths in Australia. That tells
us something important — too many men are struggling alone.

The truth is, mental health challenges are human. Stress, burnout, anxiety, grief, anger,
numbness, or feeling disconnected do not make someone weak. They make them human.
Reaching out for support is not failing — it is courage.
Sometimes support looks like a conversation with a mate, seeing a counsellor, opening up
to a family member, joining a men’s group, or simply admitting, “I’m not doing great right
now.” Those moments matter.

Men play an important role in families, friendships, workplaces, and communities. When
men are healthy emotionally, everyone around them benefits too. Children learn that
strength is not silence. Families become more connected. Relationships become safer and
stronger.
This generation of men has the opportunity to change the story for the next generation —
to create a culture where men feel supported, heard, valued, and not alone.
