To let Food be your Medicine in Winter, focus on:
Warm, nourishing meals - slow cooks, casseroles, root vegetable and meat/fish one tray bakes
Protein with meals to maintain body repair and brain health
Colourful vegetables such as beets, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, brussel sprouts, bok choy, eggplants, carrots or mushrooms.
Vitamin C rich fruits in season such as apples, oranges, lemons, kiwi fruit, mandarins (1-3 serves daily)
Soups and broths, and keeping a few frozen in case you get rundown and don’t feel up to cooking
In season herbs and spices such as garlic, ginger, dill, parsley, mint or rosemary
Stay hydrated in the drying, cool weather of winter with 2L clear fluids daily such as filtered water, herbal teas or broths
Supporting gut health by eating 30 different plant foods each week to maintain a healthy, diversified gut microbiome (where 70% of your immune system begins!)
